    Interesting Underground

The world's first subway opened in London in 1863. The trains were steam-powered, and the tunnels were often filled with thick smoke.

The longest subway system is in Shanghai: more than 800 km of lines and over 500 stations.

The deepest station is Arsenalna in Kiev (105.5 m). The escalator takes almost 5 minutes to reach the bottom.
